1.  John 6 v 53-54

I am currently working my way through John Stott’s book The Cross of Christ and was struck by this quote from Jesus when he fed the 5000.  He’s referring to his death and resurrection, which we remember through communion.  It’s number One on my list to memorise.

“Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day”.

2.  Ephesians 3 v 14-21

I love these verses and it will be good enough to aim to memorise and remember where it is found at least on the tip of my tongue!  But I thought it was a good goal to try and learn it.

“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations for ever and ever! Amen.”

3.  Jonah 2 v 9

“Salvation comes from the Lord.”

4.  Jonah 4 v 2

“You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love.”

Both of the above verses are part-verses and were learnt on C Zone weekend away.  Still, great verses to remember to story of Jonah and the come complete with actions, or clapping!!

5.  Colossians 3 v 17

“Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

I always remember this verse, but can never remember it exactly or where it is found! So it is a goal to have in right on the tip of my tongue at all times.  It is true – no matter what skills / gifts etc I think I may have – they are ultimately all from God and should be used in serving Him.  We did an exercise at work the other day to think about our values, and this was one of mine – even in the workplace.  This is a challenge, for me to remember and live out in such a secular environment.
